You can also check the News & Events site regularly for updates. One of the best ways you can help promote Clean Air in your Sea-to-Sky community is to lead by example, and talk to your family, friends and neighbours about steps you can take towards improving air quality. For more information on actions you can take, the BC Ministry of Environment has produced a document entitled: Clearing the Air: How You Can Help Do You Have an Air Quality Complaint? In most cases, neighbourhood-scale air quality complaints can usually be best resolved by talking to your neighbours. For example, if you are being impacted by chimney smoke, fumes from yard machinery, vehicle idling, or backyard burning, a friendly chat with your neighbour may be all it takes. In many cases, people aren’t deliberately trying to smoke you out – they may not be aware of the impacts their actions are having. In some Sea-to-Sky communities, there are backyard burning and anti-idling bylaws which are enforced by the district or municipality in which you live. To find out if there is a bylaw in your community, check the Regulations pages. If you are being impacted by smoke from open burning activity, it is helpful to familiarize yourself with the Provincial Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation. This link also provides information on how to report an infraction of the regulation. To obtain today’s Ventilation Index, go to the Open Burning page. |
