IMG 0258 225x300 New air quality monitoring station at Squamish

It has just been announced that the installation of the new air quality monitoring station at Squamish Elementary School on Buckley Ave (photo left) has been completed!  This station replaces the long running station located on 2nd Avenue and, as a self-contained, stand-alone shelter, provides much improved conditions for the operation of the monitoring equipment.  The pollutant and meteorological parameters monitored are unchanged.  Data from the new station are streamed to the BC air quality web site and are used in the calculation of the Air Quality Health Index for Squamish.  Both sets of data are publicly available at http://www.bcairquality.ca/readings/index.html (the old station also appears on the map as there may be interest in viewing recent data, prior to closure).

The vast majority of accolades for bringing this project to a successful conclusion go to monitoring technician, Lorne Nicklason, who demonstrated incredible patience and diligence in overseeing the project and coordinating with all of the various agencies and contractors to ensure all permitting and installation requirements were satisfied.  The cooperation of School District 48 and the District of Squamish are also acknowledged.
