Woodstove Exchange

NEW! Program extended to October 1, 2012

BC’s Woodstove Exchange program was implemented to encourage residents to change out old smoky woodstoves to low emission appliances such as clean burning woodstoves that are CSA or EPA approved. The intention of the program is to improve air quality and fuel efficiency by having the province collaborating as a whole to address this problem.

The woodstove exchange applies to the following communities:

  • Furry Creek
  • Britannia Beach
  • Squamish
  • Whistler
  • Pemberton
  • Mount Currie
  • D’Arcy

The 2012 program is now being administered by the Squamish Lillooet Regional District (SLRD). There will be rebate vouchers for $250 available on a first-come, first-served basis. There are approximately 100 vouchers remaining for 2012.

The District of Squamish is also offering $100-value fire permit fee rebates for the first 15 Squamish residents to qualify for the woodstove exchange.

We thank the BC Lung Association and BC Ministry of Environment for funding this program.

What Do I Do With My Old Stove?

SSCAS has partnered with the Squamish Landfill and the Pemberton Transfer Station to ensure that options are available for you no matter which community you live in. Rest assured that all stoves will be eventually recycled and some may even be used for local art installations!

Burn It Smart Workshops

SSCAS hosted Burn-It-Smart workshops in Squamish and Pemberton as a component of the Woodstove Exchange in 2011.

The workshops included a presentation followed by a demonstration of clean vs. dirty wood burning techniques.

A Burn-it-Smart workshop was held in Squamish on April 16, 2011 and in Pemberton on December 3, 2011.
